No matter how many times I've forced myself to "attempt" reading AB I couldn't stop being exhausted due to how many elements are all crammed into the opening chapters. Feels like no character or concept gets room to breathe enough to understand/appreciate it. The fact you had to make a LIST of the relationships to keep up with the ongoing content despite your familiarity to the franchise...like okay I'm not crazy. Apple Black is hard to digest. Even the other SatAM manga were easy to read. Feels like Whytt put all his energy in replicating the appearance of an authentic manga because it's the most immediately impressive eye catcher for youtube viewers, sponsors, and other creators etc. But it falls apart once I try to become an actual reader [as someone who's been reading manga, doujinshi, all kindsa random backend comics forever...Apple Blacks most impressive feat is how much of it I can look at and step away with zero engagement]. These reviews are god's work. By far the most entertaining thing to come out of AB is a rainforest tapir making it understandable through goofy rants [the saggy tit segment was literary gold].
Yooo thank you so much for the kind words😭❤️ You summed it up best: "Apple Blacks most impressive feat is how much of it I can look at and step away with zero engagement" This is exactly it. It's like its strung together from a hazy recollection of "top 10 craziest anime moments," and all it achieves is being a white noise haze that I can barely parse
