I Am Still Here (Even if the hype died down)

Tiny changes are coming to my art giveaway

To summarize:

• My giveaways will be every month, rather than every week.

• I will still post every Tuesday, and if I’ll be gone I’ll leave a note.

• Giveaways will still follow the goal-driven format (that is, we can only unlock an art giveaway if we’ve met the specified goal). At the end of every post, I’ll let you know how close we are to filling that month’s goal

Hey everyfurry.

If you’re reading this, odds are you found me from the December giveaway.

It was a big hit, and pretty easy to market: for all of December, every subscriber got a drawing, no questions asked.

However, the sheer volume of requests made this incredibly difficult. The December Giveaway isn’t something I can easily repeat. I had to drop everything to pull this off.

I can’t do a stunt like this again unless my Substack brings in enough money to make it worth my time (hence the 350 Mission).

I started the weekly, goal-driven art giveaways as a compromise. Ideally I could drive traffic to my blog and give away art incrementally, without it taking over my life.

The goals set were always ambitious, but (at least in my mind) achievable. So it stung that they failed every time I tried something besides “First 3 people to comment get a drawing”.

So let’s try something different.

Instead of doing a promotional giveaway every week, let’s try it every month.

Why?

• Not everyone checks their inbox consistently. I have writers I love and give money to, but I won’t drop everything when they make a new post. Not because I don’t love them, I’ve just got my own things going on.
  I can’t assume I’m everyone’s Must Read Newsletter and people are calling off work to read my posts just because I have this free art gimmick.

• We’ll be able to see the progress on giveaway goals, so you’ll know how hard you need to rally the troops to get free art

I want these giveaways to work for both me and you - so I hope this is a success. And if we fail 3 times in a row I’ll have to brainstorm something new.

I will still post every Tuesday, and at the end of each post I’ll say how we’re doing on the goal.

My window of time for posting is “If it’s Tuesday somewhere on the planet” so the time will always vary.
