Hey everyfurry! It’s time for a Tapirclip Clip Show
1. The Last Day: The Comic: The Indiegogo Campaign has EXCEEDED its goal!
Last post I reviewed The Last Day: The Comic. And it has now exceeded its Indiegogo goal! HUGE congrats to
and the team! There’s still a few hours left if you still want to chip in!
2. I am Looking for more comics/manga to review
Since the success of The Last Day, I’ve been cold-dm’ing mangaka asking if I can review their stuff.
The Last Day’s Indiegogo went from 50% of their goal before I reviewed, and jumped to over 100% after my review. I won’t take all the credit, I know causation does not equal correlation, if we really stretch the timeline that jump is 0% to 20000%, (and 10 other things to say to make yourself sound more humbler), but helping a fellow indie comic creator was pretty cool and I wanna do it more.
If you’re a comic creator and want me to review your work, leave a comment and let’s talk.
3. Rewards are now easier
There have been less (that is, exactly 0) referrals to my blog since I reworked the referral rewards program. Ruh roh!
So I reworked it again: rewards are now easier and faster. And at the final reward level, I’ll review whatever you suggest. It can be anything, from any medium.
If you want me to talk about something other than a manga you, yourself made - the referral rewards are what’ll incentivize me to give it a look.
Last time I opened a submission form for reviews, it was stuffed with suggestions for comics/manga/shows that readers didn’t make themselves. That tells me that everyone here has a piece of media you’d love to hear my Tapir Take on- so I hope that desire is strong enough that you’ll tell your friends to check out this blog.
BTW! if anyone already on the leaderboard wants in on the new rewards, just leave a comment and I’ll manually push through the rewards email. I guess if you got a reward from the original rewards program, this is double dipping. But, shrug emoji!!! I’ll take a double dip over someone making a new account and manipulating the follow count with fake numbers.
Here’s that link to the rewards page one more time. Good luck everypony!
4. Check out my latest manga haul
Got a big manga haul! I have a lot of thoughts on what I read, but I’m assuming only the stuff in Shonen Jump is easily available in English.
I don’t know if it’s the world’s biggest cocktease to review manga that’ll never be available in English or if it’s nbd. So here’s a poll:
“Obscure” isnt the right word, but “untranslated” wouldn’t fit in the character count
5. S o o n.
The Apple Black light novel releases next month. Finally!!!
I’ll have a review out within a week of its release. I know that’s a big promise, but do not underestimate how intensely I’ve been waiting for this.
Here’s hoping this book’ll tell us who’s the spectrum and who’s the specter.
6. I Am Politely Excusing Myself
This might be too inside baseball but whatever.
So the last few posts I ended with a plug for the Essay Club. The goal is to write 24 essays by next January. And after 3 entries I am Quitting! So this might be my quickest abandonment yet. I’ve went back on those posts and deleted the Essay Club plugs.
I feel like my stuff just didn’t match the Essay Club’s vibe, since Essay Club writers are all very thoughtful and academic. Meanwhile, I can’t go 30 seconds without bringing up my cum jar progress or jokingly calling myself a homosexual. One of my exceedingly few talents in life is knowing when to scram, and this was one of those times.
6. Back on my Unite grind
Well, time to talk about my cum jar progress. For the new guys here, I’m on a mission to draw Wolo with the entire Unite roster. The project started 2 years ago and it’s still going strong - and I recently feel particularly motivated to get through more of the roster.
I’ve been able to stick with this for so long since I’m using this project as a way to experiment with drawing different styles, coloring techniques, and fetishes.
If you’ve never seen it, the most recent comments work as a great testimonial:
You can find the SFW entries on my Deviantart. You can find more entries on my Furaffinity. And you can find (mostly) everything in high-def on e621.
And not to bring down the vibes but it suuuuuuuuuuucks that not every picture in the series is approved. I use e621 as my primary way to check which mons I’ve already drawn, since the tagging system makes it easy to find art. Having to make the mental note that “oh yes, THIS drawing was removed” is a prickly little asterisk. I guess I’ll have to move to a new system to make sure I don’t draw anything twice, like making a spreadsheet of everything I’ve drawn so far. Which I should be doing anyway, so maybe this was Good, actually
I’m going to get pretentious about my series of permabeg-tier porn drawings - but they’re meant to be viewed as a group, like you would in an art gallery. Or a TCG with different artist contributors. There’s motifs and themes that repeat and build on each other, that are cohesive when viewed as a whole - but when they happen is a bit random, and it’s not necessary you view them sequentially.
So it doesn’t have the same narrative weight as a comic, but they still belong together. e6 makes their stance clear:
Wolo’s always with a nonhuman in this series, so I don’t know why some don’t make the cut. I guess it really is just a Skill Issue.
I’m forcing myself to adapt a shoganai attitude about this - it’s easier than trying to explain why achktyually, the mods are wrong, they dont understand my Art. The mods have enough to deal with. My bangnum opus simply wasn’t meant to be viewed in its entirety in HD… (dramatic sigh)
7. Otaku Cafe is going great
Now for good news: Otaku Cafe has launched! 2-3x a week there’s an insightful essay related to otaku culture. So if you need more in-depth otaku writing to sink your teeth into, this is where to go
